Eco printing is pure magic, plant parts such as leaves, bark or blossoms are placed on the material prepared for dyeing, rolled up tightly and then steamed or boiled in a dye bath. This elicits the plants' natural dyes and can be used to permanently conjure them onto paper and fabric. What remains is a heap of leaves that ends up on the compost. The joy of experimentation is at the forefront of this technique, as the possibilities of control over this process are small, but the variables are enormous. Season, site conditions, weather influences, harvest time of the plants, as well as the variety of different materials in combination with the preparation by different mordanting methods make this technique never completely predictable and therefore always fascinating.
